In Boone's words

The odds, in plain words

People come in after the worst week of their working life and want to know one thing: do I have a case. I'd rather tell you no on the first call than yes for six months and no at the end.

I came to El Paso from Lubbock for a clerkship and stayed for the green chile and the mountains. Before law school I drove a delivery route, which is how I learned what an unpaid break looks like from the inside.

Severance first

If you've been handed an agreement, bring it in before you sign. Most give up every claim you have for a few weeks' pay, and most have more room in them than the employer lets on.
